Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks had his worst game since Linsanity began last night against the Miami Heat, going 1-11 from the field, with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 8 turnovers. So what is it ? Lin has had 10 very good games, and 1 really bad one ? The same way after his first good game, we weren’t saying “Yes ! This is it ! He’s going to average 25pts and 7 assists for his career !” We can’t after one bad game, say this is who he is. From my observations his handle is “loose” at times, and when pressured he sometimes gets flustered resulting in turnovers.
I think Jeremy Lin is more of the player that we’ve seen in the Linsanity run. He’s going to get better, and once he controls his turnovers he’ll be that much more effective. He has been a victim of his own success, because teams gear up for him because of all the hype. Once Linsanity cools off, and he can just play his game in peace the way every other NBA point guard can, I think he’ll be a solid to star point guard.
I agree with CMR, though I’ll add this: as long as he’s still engaged in the game to do everything else (who was the last Knicks PG to get rebounds the way he does?), he can work through the turnovers.
He doesn’t have a great ‘yo-yo’ handle that can keep the dribbling-related turnovers down; he’s just aggressive enough to speed by defenders and attack the rim. Nor does he keep the ball low as the best ball handlers do. The latter might improve before the former, so that should help.
Lin as a 14/7/5 guy is terrific for a team that wants a flowing offense.
BTW, I think some may forget that he not only went against the best team in the league, but the best defensive backcourt in the league in the last four years. Athletic guards like Wade and Chalmers may not evoke images of the great defense of yesteryear, but they give most PGs fits. I’m pleased he stayed aggressive, despite being frustrated.
I think the real Jeremy Lin is the one that we’ve seen for the past few weeks, discounting this Miami game. Jeremy Lin has been an absolute stud this year, and he deserves that agnowledgement. I think he’ll be a solid point guard in the NBA for years to come.
He had one bad game…who cares? He’s shown that he has talent and he is the point guard that the Knicks needed. He was double and even triple teamed in the Miami game..I mean anyone would have a horrible night. Ultimately with time and finesse Jeremy Lin will continue to shine and become a better player.
He has had more than one game, and, judging by the ratings that night, a lot of people cared, because a lot of people watched the game. I went to Applebees in Times Square and there was no room to sit at the bar.
Lin will be fine once he gets used to playing in this league. He is still very much a rookie that was shoved onto the biggest stage in the game with the brightest lights. He has to learn his major players and they are starting to gel. It will take time. Playoffs this year is all we can hope for. Next year will be the test once they can really practice together as a team. Having Baron on the floor the same time as Lin was interesting. I think Baron helps take the pressure off Lin when they are on the floor together. Can’t do it for long stretches but it was interesting. The biggest issue we have is not Lin but playing Defense for an entire game. They showed that they can play D well when they want to but we need to do it all the time like miami.
