I believe Amare is going down in history as the most expensive bench player ever. The more minutes he plays the more pressure on those knees and that back. Stat at his best, dominated via his superior athleticism. That is no longer possible. He is a liability on defense, and was not a good rebounder before Melo arrived.
Woodson should continue to focus on what gives the Knicks the best opportunity for a championship run. Stat is not a core component of this team. Having Stat and Melo on the floor together creates bad spacing which decreases Melo’s effectiveness. Wallace is a much better partner for Melo because his man must stay with him when he is in 3 point territory.
Shumpert’s return could be a big key because he will allow JR to get some rest going into the playoffs. I’ve waited a longtime for another Knick championship so I don’t particularly care about assuaging Amare’s ego. If he can contribute fine, if not we’ll provide with a seat better than Spike’s.
Funny Joe, last night I said Coach Woodson would start me before putting Amar’e in the starting lineup. Last game, Kurt Thomas, and then Marcus Camby? Ultimately, the Knicks are best potentially with both on the court. Great thoughts.
