What are your Predictions for the Mets and Yankees?

New York Yankees Captain Derek Jeter Will Retire at the end of the Season

New York Yankees Captain Derek Jeter Will Retire at the end of the Season

I am posting my predictions so that I am on the record, but what are yours?

I think the goal for the New York Mets is to go 82-80. When Matt Harvey went down for the year, that eliminated the possibility for the Mets to compete this season for a wildcard or even a division title. I do think they need to improve, and an 82-80 season, or better, would be the building block the organization would need to take the next steps, first in free agency, then on the field, to try to win 90+ games in 2015 with the return of Harvey and others. The core of young Mets pitching gives the fan base hope for the not-too-distant future.

With Derek Jeter announcing that he will retire at the end of the season, this season will be remembered fondly by New York Yankees fans. While there are hopes of the Yankees bringing hope a championship in the final season for Jeter, I think there are too many unknowns. How will Jeter play coming off of a severe injury at his age? How will Masahiro Tanaka , who is being paid $25 million per year if you take on the posting fee, perform in his first year as a Major Leaguer? How will CC Sabathia bounce back? Will Mark Teixeira ever be the same player? I think the Yankees will win about 87 games, which will put them just out of the playoffs.

Feel free to post your predictions for the 2014 Major League Baseball season.

Less than a year after playing in the NBA, Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd is being honored as Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for the second time of his first season as a head coach. Below is a statement released by the Nets.

“April 1, 2014

BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd has been named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for March after leading the Nets to a 12-4 record, the league announced today.

This marks the second Coach of the Month honor for Kidd in his first season as a head coach. He also won the award for the month of January. The Nets’ 12 wins matched the most victories in the month of March in Nets’ NBA history and the 12-4 record was the best mark in the Eastern Conference for the month.

Kidd becomes the first head coach this season to capture the award more than once and the first head coach in franchise history to win the award twice in the same season. Kidd is only the second rookie head coach since the NBA created the award in 1982-83 to win the honor more than once in the same season (Tom Thibodeau).

The Nets won nine of their franchise record-tying 13 straight home games in March, becoming the only Eastern Conference team to post a perfect home record for the month, and were 7-1 against teams with a .500 or better record

The Nets held 12 of their 16 opponents under 100 points, including all nine opponents at home. The Nets also scored 104 or more points in each of their last eight games of the month, marking their longest streak of games with 104 or more points since the 1986-87 season. The Nets shot 40.4% from three-point range (third-best in the NBA in March), while holding their opponents to 33.4% from behind the arc. The Nets also led the NBA in steals per game (10.6), recording 170 steals to their opponents’ 104.”
