At the Prudential Center Wednesday night, there was disappointment in the air with the National Basketball Association’s leading scoring, Kevin Durant, of the Oklahoma City Thunder, out with a knee injury. Add to that Devin Harris, of the New Jersey Nets, sitting out with a knee injury sustained in the previous game, and expectations were lowered for the game. The remaining players on the Nets and Thunder would send those expectations through the roof with a triple-overtime thriller that had the Prudential Center crowd on it’s feet for the fourth quarter and three overtimes.
Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook put the game to an end in the third overtime, scoring all 13 points for his team to seal the victory. The Nets were unable to get off a game-tying shot in the final six seconds of this contest, and lost, 123-120.
The game was sent to a third overtime when Net reserve Stephen Graham fouled Forward Jeff Green of the Thunder with 4.6 seconds left, behind the 3-point line. Green made three clutch free throws on the road and made it look easy, as he swished all three. A Jordan Farmar fade away jump shot was no good, which sent the game into a third overtime.
The game went into a second overtime when the Thunder rallied from a five-point deficit to tie the game at 100. Westbrook hit two jumpers in the final minute to tie it, as Brook Lopez missed a jump hook and a jump shot that may have put this game away.
The game went into overtime on a three-point shot by Net Forward Anthony Morrow that tied the game at 93 and sent the Prudential Center into a frenzy! The Nets trailed by nine to begin the fourth quarter and looked like they were headed to a defeat before the Morrow buzzer beater.
For the second-straight game, the Nets had a poor third quarter offensively. The Thunder outscored the Nets 27-13 in the third quarter, a day after the Nets were outscored 33-15 by the Knicks.
The Thunder were led by Westbrook with 38 points, 15 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 steals, while Green scored a career-high 37 points, while pulling down 5 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Serge Ibaka scored 11 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked 4 shots. James Harden came off the bench to score 16 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.
The Nets were lead by Brook Lopez, who scored 28 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Farmar also scored 28 points, with 9 assists, and 2 steals. Morrow scored 25 points with 5 rebounds, and Travis Outlaw had 16 points and 4 rebounds.
