One Caribbean Radio Sports Briefs for Friday, June 15, 2012, by Derrel “Jazz” Johnson

The Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 100-96 to tie the series at one game apiece. LeBron James led the Heat with 32 points, 8 rebounds and Dwyane Wade added 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 32 points.

On Saturday, Tomasz Adamek will take on Eddie Chambers in a battle of heavyweight contenders at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The fight is the main event in the fourth edition of NBC Sports Network’s “Fight Night” series. The broadcast will begin at 9pm. Adamek comes in with a record of 45-2, 28 KOs while Eddie Chambers is 36-2, 18 KOs. The Prudential Center should be rocking tomorrow as the Polish-born Adamek, fights out of Jersey City. Chambers, from PA, should also have solid support from his Philadelphia supporters.

Expectations are high for Jamaica’s men’s basketball team that will compete in the Centrobasketball tournament from June 18-24 in San Juan, Puerto Rico The 12-man team has three current or former NBA players, including Jerome Jordan from the New York Knicks, Samardo Samuels C C and Patrick Ewing Jr. The team, ranked number three in the Caribbean and eighth in the Americas, is seeking to qualify for the Tournament of the Americas, which is in itself a qualifier for the World Championships. Jamaica will face Costa Rica on the opening day June 18, the US Virgin Islands the next day, and the Dominican Republic on June 20 before ending group play against Mexico on June 21.

The New York Mets defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 9-6 yesterday afternoon to sweep the three-game series. The New York Mets offense exploded in the series, as they scored 29 runs in the series and at least nine in each of the three games.
