The Track and Field World is still buzzing after Yohan “The Beast” Blake defeated Usain Bolt twice in the 100 and 200 meters in the 2012 Jamaica National Senior Championships, essentially the Jamaica Olympic Trials. Blake finished with a career-best 9.75 seconds in the 100 meters, while Bolt finished with 9.86 seconds. Asafa Powell came in a close third with 9.88 seconds and Michael Frater was fourth with 9.94 seconds. It was the first time four countrymen finished in under 10 seconds in the same race. In the 200 meters, Blake again topped Bolt with a career-best 19.80 finish, while a fast-closing Bolt finished with a time of 19.83.
The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox yesterday afternoon 4-2. Dominican Republic native Robinson Cano homered on the first day of July after belting 11 in the month of June. Cano, along with Curtis Granderson, Derek Jeter and CC Sabathia, were selected to the 2012 Major League Baseball All Star Game to be played in Kansas City next Tuesday. RA Dickey and David Wright were selected for the new York Mets. Speaking of the Mets, they failed to sweep the Los Angeles Dodgers last night in a 8-3 loss. The Mets are off tonight and the Yankees head to Tampa Bay to play the Rays.
Tiger Woods passed Jack Nicklaus and now has sole possession of second place all time with PGA Tour wins. His victory at the AT&T National yesterday was his 74th tournament win.
