The recent signing of Rasheed Wallace for the veteran’s minimum was an interesting move by the New York Knicks. Wallace is up there in age at 38, but feels he still has something left in the tank, and is ready to prove it. If Wallace still has some remnants of his once all-star level game, he will be able to provide the Knicks with a strong post presence, and another three-point threat. He will always bring intangibles such as experience and energy, but the question is can he produce on the court?
During the team’s practice on Tuesday, Wallace was mostly working separate from the team doing solo drills and stretches. When asked what he was working on he said “Working to get in shape… cross training workout.” He looks physically healthy, and was moving well. Wallace looks to provide a veteran presence, and inside and outside scoring. When asked if he would be available for Thursday’s game vs. the Washington Wizards, Wallace responded “Ask Coach Woodson.” He was then asked if he felt he was ready to play, to which he replied, “I’m good money.” Rasheed stated that passion was his main reason for returning, and believes that the Knicks have a shot to go all the way this year. “The only thing that held us back last year was injuries.” He also stated that he wants to show the young guys what real old-school post play is about. “I have passion to show y’all how to play in the post… I’ma bring old school back.” Wallace was very adamant in stating how the post play now by the young guys leaves much to be desired. He even alluded to the fact that he was so frustrated watching it, that he had to come back to set them straight.
Wallace said that New York can expect him to be himself. That means passionate and intense in games, outspoken, but also jovial and fun. “I don’t sugar coat anything, I’ma speak my mind.” So if things aren’t going right, you can expect to hear about it from Rasheed. Everyone wanted to know when Wallace would see game action, and he repeatedly replied, “Ask Coach Woodson! It’s on him.” But Rasheed himself is amped and ready to go. He is ready to bring old school back.
