The Inkwell College Football Power Rankings Week 11 By Aaron “The Inkwell” Smith November 18, 2010

1. Oregon Ducks- I am almost tempted to move them down a notch after last week’s lackluster performance against the California Golden Bears, in which the Ducks won 15-13.  I don’t know if it was the strategy(Bear’s players reportedly feigned injuries to slow down the Duck’s offense) or if Oregon’s team just wasn’t up for this game. Nevertheless, they put another W in the win column after other number 1 teams failed to do so for longer than a week. That is enough to keep them at number 1.
Up Next: No. 1 Oregon vs No. 22 Arizona (Nov. 26), California vs No. 6 Stanford (Nov. 20)
2. Auburn Tigers- Amidst the controversy of the Cam Newton Pay-For-Play Saga, the Tigers had deaf ears and walloped a Georgia Bulldog team that had been on a roll since getting their top flight receiver, AJ Green, back in the lineup. Cam Newton continued his torrid play and scorched Georgia for 299 total yards and 4 scores to help Auburn clinch the widely competitive SEC West. Auburn won 49-31 to go 8-0 at home for the first time since 1988, a year it also won the SEC.
Up Next: Georgia vs Georgia Tech (Nov. 27), No. 2 Auburn at No. 11 Alabama (Nov. 26)
3. TCU Horned Frogs-The Frogs won 40-35 against a very good San Diego State Aztecs’ team. Give the Aztecs credit for scoring more points than all of TCU’s previous MWC opponents combined but it wasn’t enough to derail the nation’s number 3 team. Andy Dalton bounced back from an early fumble and threw four touchdown passes. And TCU picked up three first downs on its final drive to stop the Aztecs’ comeback.
Up Next: San Diego State vs No. 23 Utah (Nov. 20), No. 3 TCU at New Mexico (Nov. 27)
4. Boise State Broncos- With a nickname such as the Vandals one would think that Idaho would be a frightening bunch. Well, try telling that to Boise State. The Broncos were scared straight into vandalizing the Vandals 52-14. Boise State opened up with 28 points in the first quarter to end any hope the Vandals might have had at pulling off an upset. Boise State has now won 23 straight games, which is the longest active FBS streak.
Up Next: No. 4 Boise State vs Fresno State (Nov. 19), Idaho at Utah State (Nov. 20)
5. LSU Tigers-The Tigers should drop in ranking for playing the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks but sometimes a little leisure time is needed. So Les Miles and his Tigers went bird hunting and bludgeoned the Warkeets 51-0. LSU has not lost a home game to a nonconference opponent since 1982. If they play teams as miserable as the one they played last Saturday, then this is no great feat. Nevertheless, the Tigers stay in the hunt for a chance at the national championship in Arizona.
Up Next: Louisiana-Monroe vs North Texas (Nov. 20), No. 5 LSU vs Mississippi (Nov. 20)

6. Wisconsin Badgers-No one would believe that this game started out slow in the first quarter. Jump to the second quarter and the Badgers blow open this game with a 28-point second quarter. Montee Ball and James White combined for 311 yards and five touchdowns on their way to their highest point total since 1915 when they defeated Marquette 85-0. Not to be funny, I have to provide the score in this lopsided affair. 83-20. This shilacking was so embarrassing that I forgot to name the opposing team, Indiania.
Up Next: Indiana vs Penn State (Nov. 20 – AT LANDOVER MD), No. 7 Wisconsin at Michigan (Nov. 20)

7. Ohio State Buckeyes-It is not over yet for the Buckeyes. Ohio State, behind its defense which took two interceptions back for scores and pitched a second-half shutout, defeated the 6-4 Penn State Nittany Lions 38-14. The Buckeyes continue their momentum after losing their only game to Wisconsin earlier in the season, in hopes to vie for the national championship as a one loss team if any of the top four teams should lose.
Up Next: Penn State at Indiana (Nov. 20 – AT LANDOVER MD), No. 9 Ohio State at No. 20 Iowa (Nov. 20)

8. Nebraska Cornhuskers-Nebraska broke out the Blackshirts. Then they held the Kansas Jayhawks to a total of 87 yards. The Jayhawks managed a field goal out of those 87 yards while Nebraska racked up 20 points. Give the offense some credit for getting a chance to score that much because their defense was the star this past Saturday, which had five sacks and held Kansas to a measly 0.8 yards per pass. If I were the Kansas coach, Turner Gill, I would try to find some way not to play this game. The Jayhawks have lost 40 of the 42 games in this series that dates to 1908.
Up Next: Kansas vs No. 10 Oklahoma State (Nov. 20), No. 8 Nebraska at No. 19 Texas A&M (Nov. 20)

9. Michigan State Spartans-The Spartans were idle this week.
Up Next:  Purdue vs No. 11 Michigan State(Nov. 20)

10. Stanford Cardinals-The Cardinals dodged a bullet by sneaking pass the Arizona State Sun Devils 17-13. The Cardinals are on a five game win streak and are 9-1 for the first time since 1951 to remain in the hunt for an at-large bid for a BCS Bowl.  If it were not for the streak and its record the Cardinals would find themselves out of the Inkwell Top Ten.
Up Next: No. 6 Stanford at California (Nov. 20), Arizona State vs UCLA (Nov. 26)
